Opening the box

she gasped as

something twisted

inside her

She reached into her

mouth, felt her incisors

lengthen and sharpen.

Her watery eyes then

focused with fire

and she began to hunt for blood.

You see, she was

just another vampire who was

once a girl.

Briar+Rose

Briar Rose

awoke

to find the world changed.

She pulled

herself

loose from a tangle of vines

and followed

the

smell of smoke and singed hair.

She came

to

a metal fence through which

she entwined

a

red rose, as she reached for it

her hand

singed

and she danced then like a puppet

wildly unstrung.

The

stick women gathered around and cried

though they

had

no tears. Against the fence

was pressed

their

princess-who would sleep another thousand years.
